On October 1, flowers were laid in memory of the fallen Heroes of Ukraine at the Alley of Glory, and employees and liquidators of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant were honoured near the “Intercession of the Mother of God” sculpture located in the Rotunda of the “Heroes of Chornobyl” Memorial. Bohdan Shmyhelskyi, Executive Director for Human Resources of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, took part in the event.

Forty-nine years ago, on September 26, 1977, the first power unit of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant began operation. That date marked one of the defining milestones in the development of Ukraine’s nuclear ector. Chornobyl NPP specialists ensured the operation of the plant and, following the accident, made a significant contribution to overcoming its consequences at the cost of their own health and lives.

The events at the Chornobyl NPP forever changed approaches to nuclear facility safety. Today, nuclear and radiation safety remain an absolute priority in the operation of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, while the memory of the heroes of Chornobyl NPP reminds every new generation of nuclear workers of their responsibility.

“We remember the heroism of Ukrainian nuclear professionals. At the cost of their lives and health, they prevented the spread of radiation and saved millions of people. Eternal memory and glory to them.

On this day, we also honour Ukraine’s Defenders who are protecting our land. We are proud of Energoatom employees who have joined the Armed Forces. Stay safe, and the Company will continue to support you until Victory,” Bohdan Shmyhelskyi said.
