On April 10, Pavlo Kovtonyuk, head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, paid a working visit to Rivne NPP. The purpose of the trip was to monitor the implementation of scheduled maintenance at Ukrainian nuclear power plants and to discuss the strategy for nuclear power generation amid ongoing challenges facing Ukraine’s power grid.

During the visit, the company’s head led a production meeting with Rivne NPP management. Participants reviewed repair work schedules, addressed the supply of necessary spare parts, and discussed how to strengthen the physical protection of critical infrastructure.

Pavlo Kovtonyuk emphasized that this year’s maintenance campaign is one of the most critical, as nuclear power generation accounts for over 60% of the country’s electricity needs.

“A large-scale maintenance campaign at all of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants is proceeding intensively and in accordance with approved schedules. Thanks to the high qualifications of our specialists and the implementation of modern approaches to process management, we have successfully optimized timelines for specific work areas. Reducing the duration of repairs without compromising quality means additional megawatts in the power grid, which help maintain balance while other types of generation recover from shelling,” he noted.

During the working visit, Taras Tkach, Director General of Rivne NPP, briefed the company’s management on the specifics of this year’s maintenance campaign at the plant.

“The maintenance campaign at Rivne NPP has its own unique features. In addition to the standard list of scheduled operations, we are implementing a series of critically important measures for modernization and enhancing safety. We are replacing some of the equipment with more modern versions,” said Taras Tkach.

Energoatom CEO Pavlo Kovtonyuk stressed that nuclear power generation remains the foundation of Ukraine’s power system, enabling the country to avoid prolonged blackouts even during peak hours.
