On April 14, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP cut off the external power supply from the Ukrainian power grid that was used to meet the plant’s in-house needs.
Due to the invaders’ incompetent actions in the temporarily occupied territory, Zaporizhzhia NPP was left without power. 19 backup diesel generators automatically started operating at the plant. External power supply to the ZNPP was restored within an hour and a half.
The operation of Europe’s largest nuclear facility under the control of russian invaders systematically poses a threat to the entire European region. Since the occupation began, the plant has already experienced 13 blackouts and has repeatedly faced critical restrictions on its external power supply.
Currently, ZNPP is powered via the 330 kV “Ferosplavna-1” power line. The main 750 kV “Dniprovska” line has remained disconnected since March 24.
The nuclear power plant must be returned to Ukraine's control and its legitimate operator, Energoatom, as soon as possible. This is the only way to prevent the worst-case scenario from unfolding for the entire European continent.
