The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a strategic decision that opens a new chapter in the history of domestic nuclear sector. This refers to the construction of a modern technological complex for the manufacturing of fuel assemblies for Ukrainian NPPs within the Pivdennoukraink municipal territorial community.
The corresponding order has been published on the Government website.
The construction of this complex is a strategic decision towards Ukraine´s energy independence, as the transition to domestic fuel using Westinghouse technology will enhance the safety of the fuel component for Ukrainian NPPs.
Previously, the American company conducted an assessment and potential qualification of the production lines at JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” regarding the possibility of assembling fuel components. Furthermore, an environmental impact assessment was carried out and development of a feasibility study was developed. The documentation successfully passed the state expert review, confirming the expediency and safety of the project implementation.
It is important that the initiative received support from the local community – in September 2005, the project was approved at the local level. Moreover, as early as March 2026, the Government reached a final decision, giving the green light for its practical implementation.
The next stage will involve developing design documentation and undergoing a comprehensive state expert review.
