2026 maintenance campaign: another nuclear power plant unit reconnected to the grid

As part of preparations for the 2026–2027 autumn-winter period, another nuclear power plant unit has been reconnected to Ukraine’s power grid following the completion of scheduled maintenance.

According to Pavlo Kovtonyuk, head of JSC “NNEGC Energoatom”, the maintenance campaign has already passed its halfway point, and most of the scheduled maintenance on the nuclear power plant units is being carried out several days ahead of schedule. This is an important contribution to the stability of Ukraine’s power system.

“Today, we are not only confidently carrying out the maintenance program but also ensuring above-plan electricity generation. Thanks to the clear organization of work, strict adherence to schedules, and the professionalism of the nuclear power plant teams, the Ukrainian power grid has the necessary capacity for stable operation. This is precisely what allows the country to navigate the current period without resorting to power outage schedules, which were a necessary measure last year due to the consequences of massive russian attacks,” emphasized Pavlo Kovtonyuk.

Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian nuclear power plants have generated over 25 billion kWh of electricity, exceeding the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine’s forecast balance by more than 500 million kWh.

The return to operation of yet another power unit will allow for an increase in electricity supply to the power grid and strengthen its stability ahead of the peak load period.
