Representatives of the affiliate “SS SUNP”, as part of the Ukrainian national team, competed well at the European Athletics Championships.
The European Masters Athletics Championships (35+) were held on the picturesque island of Madeira (Portugal) from October 8 to 19. Three representatives of the South Ukraine NPP took part in the prestigious competition: Alyona Kyslytsia (Health Department), Volodymyr Vaskov, and Vyacheslav Oholenko (both from the Electrical Workshop).
In total, more than four thousand athletes from 54 countries took part in the competition. 46 athletes (20 women and 26 men) from 15 regions represented Ukraine. Our representative team competed in age categories from 35+ to 80+ by registering in 100 events.
SUNPP employees ran distances of 10 and 21 kilometers. The South Ukraine nuclear power plant employees showed decent results in their age categories.
10 km:
Vyacheslav Oholenko (40–44 years old) — 10th place out of 26 participants;
Volodymyr Vaskov (50–54 years old) — 25th place out of 31 participants;
Alyona Kyslytsia (50–54 years old) — 18th place out of 28 participants.
21 km:
Vyacheslav Oholenko (40–44 years old) — 11th place out of 17 participants;
Volodymyr Vaskov (50–54 years old) — 17th place out of 25 participants;
Alyona Kyslytsia (50–54 years old) — 17th place out of 32 participants.
The achievements of our runners deserve applause, considering that they competed with professional athletes. The high level of the Championship is also evidenced by two world and six European records set.
