Plant-wide emergency response drills took place at the sites of the affiliates of the separate subdivisions of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” – South-Ukraine, Rivne, and Khmelnytskyi NPPs. Their purpose was to test the preparedness of personnel to act in case of emergencies, including radiation accidents and military threats.

During the training, plant employees practiced response algorithms for simulated emergencies caused by missile attacks on nuclear facilities by the aggressor country. The events involved 2,926 NPP employees, as well as specialists from the JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Affiliate “SS “Emergency Technical Center”.

Representatives of local departments of the State Emergency Service and the National Police of Ukraine, municipal non-profit medical institutions of satellite towns, and special civil defense services of local executive authorities and local self-government also participated in the grills.

On April 21 and 22, 2026, at the South Ukraine Energy Complex, the drills were conducted on the topic: “Municipal radiation accident at the affiliate “SS SUNPP” resulting from a missile strike by the aggressor country on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure facilities, accompanied by NPP house load loss. In total, 286 employees participated in the training. The participants practiced 27 introductory drills, including testing notification systems, evacuating personnel, deploying radiation control points, special treatment of equipment, debris clearance, dust suppression, and providing medical assistance to simulated victims.

On March 27, 2026, at the Rivne NPP the drills took place on the topic: “Sheltering and evacuation of personnel of the Affiliate «SS RNPP” upon receipt of the “RADIATION ACCIDENT” signal”. It involved 2,084 employees. The main emphasis was placed on the sheltering and evacuation of personnel, the work of the Evacuation Commission, emergency preparedness and response management, as well as the tasks of the transport support group. The training took place both on the plant site and in the town of Varash, where evacuation assembly points were deployed. Employees practiced the procedure of actions after receiving a signal about a radiation accident threat, specifically sheltering in civic defense protective structures followed by transport evacuation.

On March 12, 2026, at the Khmelnytskyi NPP the drills were conducted on the topic: “On-site accident caused by an emergency of a military nature, which led to NPP house load loss. The events involved 516 employees. They practiced actions using full-scope simulators, tabletop diagrams, and those directly on the plant site and off-site. The personnel acquired skills in managing and mitigating the consequences of a simulated accident, and practiced coordination with authorities and external services.

More than 120 people from Energoatom Emergency Technical Center took part in the drills as operational groups, deploying over 30 vehicles and unique specialized equipment. In total, in 2026 alone, Emergency Technical Center conducted about 200 theoretical and practical training sessions for emergency teams, as well as 7 comprehensive emergency response drills jointly with wide-plant training.

Such type of drills is an important component of maintaining a high level of emergency preparedness at Ukrainian NPPs. These events contribute to improving coordination between departments, increasing the professional level of personnel and ensuring safe and reliable operation of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure facilities.
