The personnel training on the topic “Conducting walkdown and visual inspections according to the WANO methodology” was held at the South Ukraine NPP. That session was the starting point in a series of training activities. The event was organized at the initiative of the management of the branch “SS SUNPP” and was intended primarily for heads of departments, their deputies and representatives of the succession pool. After the training, the participants should transfer the acquired knowledge to their teams.

“The experts who come for peer reviews are very experienced and attentive to details. Our task is to ensure that SUNPP employees perceive these visual inspections not as a threat, but as a work process for which they are fully prepared. The ultimate goal of the training is to ensure that the expert inspections do not cause stress for the personnel,” said one of the training organizers, secondee of the WANO Paris Center Yevhen Nikitenko.

The training program places special emphasis on the practical mastery of the “white card” walkdown methodology. This is a form of inspection carried out on the first day of the peer review allows you to quickly assess the general condition of the equipment, compliance with safety standards and the housekeeping culture at the plant.

“A walkdown is not only a control tool, but also one of the forms of live HR management. We tried to convey the methodology of conducting walkdown as much as possible in accordance with the “Leaders in the Field” guidelines and our personal experience of participating in inspections in the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Finland,” Yevhen Nikitenko emphasized.

From now on, trainings conducted by secondees of the WANO Paris Center will become regular. In the future, they plan to conduct training in other forms of work with personnel, in particular, in observations and analysis. The organizers expect that owing to the knowledge gained, the personnel will be able to make better focus on the Company’s expectations and be 100% ready for the visit of international experts.

In addition, in the autumn period, JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” plans to conduct a large-scale inspection of all Ukrainian nuclear power plants, except for the temporarily occupied ZNPP. Given the impossibility of involving foreign specialists during the war, the Company will independently conduct a comprehensive assessment of the state of production and safety culture.
