IAEA Medical Assistance Mission at the Khmelnytskyi NPP

On April 2, a team of experts of the IAEA Medical Assistance Mission worked at the Khmelnytskyi NPP. Their goal was to assess the implementation of the Medical Assistance Program for NPP Personnel, launched in 2023, and the readiness for medical response in case of emergencies.

Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was held with the participation of the management of branch “SS KhNPP”, JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”. Andrii Kozyura, Khmelnytskyi NPP Director General, expressed gratitude to the international partners for their support: “We have performed a large amount of work and obtained good results. These are not just individual efforts; it is teamwork, which has become possible owing to the joint efforts of everyone.”

At the KhNPP health center, experts inspected the equipment purchased under the program of scheduled medical examinations and health of services for employees. The health center was also equipped with otolaryngology, ophthalmology, and gynecology facilities. In addition, devices (Drager, cardiographs, tonometers) and medicines were purchased to provide medical care on the territory of the health center and create the necessary inventory in the shelter for the Khmelnytskyi NPP personnel.

Special attention was paid to the psychological state of the staff; the concept of face-to-face training was discussed with the participation of local psychologists and international experts.

The next day, IAEA representatives met with Netishyn medical specialists and inspected the equipment transferred to the Specialized Occupational Health Facility within the framework of international cooperation.

Based on the results of the visit, plans for further activities were developed and lists of additional medical equipment were drawn up. In fact, physical and psychological health of personnel is a safety factor.

On April 26, 2023, the IAEA Medical Assistance Mission was announced, with consideration of the difficult and stressful conditions in which the operational personnel of Ukrainian NPPs performed their duties. The goal of the program is to provide personnel of Ukrainian NPPs with access to services, especially for physical and psychological health, as well as ensure ongoing competence to perform their official duties.
