Oleksandr Kratik, Lead Engineer of Energoatom Affiliate – Separate Subdivision “RNPP” and Serhii Trotsiuk, a representative of the JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Executive Directorate for Production and Maintenance, took part in the international seminar of the World Association of Nuclear Operators, held at the WANO Paris Center (France).
The event was dedicated to the issues of the enhanced Performance Monitoring (ePM) process and the practical use of the WANO ePM indicator system. Twenty-five representatives of 12 organizations – WANO PC members, attended the seminar. In particular, practical cases of nuclear power plants in Sweden, France, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and Ukraine were presented there.
During the three-day event, participants discussed the Association’s strategic approaches within the framework of the Action for Excellence Program until 2030, the practical application of classic performance indicators, the use of the IAEA PRIS database, as well as the role of digital tools in the early detection of risks to the NPP operational safety and reliability. During the seminar, particular attention was paid to the WANO transition to monthly reporting on key indicators; this action requires nuclear power plants to mobilize resources as well as a high level of automation of data work.
The participation of the Rivne NPP representative in the seminar allowed to not only deepen professional knowledge, but also to directly exchange experience with colleagues from other countries, get acquainted with the best international practices and confirm that the approaches applied at the RNPP comply with the WANO methodology.
According to Oleksandr Kratik, participation in the event has important practical significance for further activities: “Today, WANO indicators are not just an element of reporting, but a tool for diagnosing the state of processes and equipment. This seminar has clearly demonstrated: the core value of ePM lies in early-stage issue detection and the transition from a formal “green” reporting to actionable management decisions. The experience gained confirmed the correctness of the chosen approaches at the Rivne NPP and allowed us to compare them with the best international practices.”
WANO international seminars remain an important channel for exchanging knowledge and maintaining high nuclear standards, especially when physical access to Ukrainian NPPs for international peer missions is limited.
