Ukrainian NPPs have demonstrated their efficiency during periods of high temperatures, maintaining the capacity of their power units.
“The heat affects the operation of European nuclear power plants: in several countries, NPP operators have had to shut down power units. Our nuclear power plants are able to withstand such high temperatures,” said Acting CEO of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom” Pavlo Kovtoniuk.
The cooling systems of Ukrainian nuclear reactors are capable of withstanding high temperatures, which means that extreme heat does not have the same impact on power unit operation. At the same time, the steady operation of Ukraine’s nuclear generation is one of the factors enabling the country to avoid power outages during periods of summer heat.
As a reminder, high air temperatures and the resulting drop in the water level of the Danube River have already led to the shutdown of several European NPPs, affecting the stable operation of nuclear generation in those countries.
