Pavlo Kovtonyuk, Head of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”, and Anatolii Zagorodnyi, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of NAS of Ukraine, signed a General Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

During an external meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine held in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, the parties agreed to deepen their joint activities.

The partnership is aimed at combining efforts to develop domestic nuclear energy.

“We must leverage all domestic potential, primarily scientific and technical, to improve the safety of our facilities and develop new technologies. Many engineering developments have emerged precisely thanks to the contribution of Ukrainian scientists. The NNEGC team expresses its gratitude for supporting the nuclear industry, which remains a safe and reliable foundation for the state’s energy independence,” Pavlo Kovtonyuk emphasized.

President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Anatolii Zagorodnyi stressed that strengthening cooperation will yield a positive effect for the country.

“This agreement is another step in the development of a fruitful partnership with Energoatom. The continuation of our cooperation is designed, in particular, to shape new approaches to utilizing the potential of the Chernobyl NPP site,” he added.

During the discussion on the future of the ChNPP site, scientists called for a significant revision of the safety boundaries and strategies at the plant. The existing infrastructure, experienced personnel, and modern approaches to nuclear, and radiation safety allow the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone to be transformed into a hub for the development of modern nuclear technologies.
