On May 20, Energoatom hosted future ecologists – first-year students of the “Ecology” specialty at National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”. The event, organized by the Company Strategic Communications Directorate, was dedicated to the impact of Ukrainian nuclear power plants on the environment.
Students not only listened to the lecture, but also interacted with educational mock-ups of power units and immersed themselves in technological processes owing to VR technologies.
Roman Zibnitskyi, Head of Public Relations and Public Awareness Campaign Department, who spoke about the activities of NNEGC, the principles of operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, and their operation safety measures, opened the event.
Specialists of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Directorate of Energoatom provided students with meaningful information on key topics:
- Olena Yakovenko, Head of Radiation Safety Department, spoke about monitoring the radiation impact of operating Ukrainian NPPs on the environment and the population.
- Nataliia Bohun, Lead Engineer of Ecology Department, highlighted the issue of non-radiation impact of nuclear power.
- Oleksandr Fazly, Lead Engineer of Radioactive Waste Management Department, explained the arrangement of the radwaste management system at Ukrainian NPPs.
From the side of National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, Head of Ecology Department Svitlana Boychenko and Associate Professor Olena Kozak, who had actively cooperated with the Company in the educational and scientific direction, joined the event.
Students had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail about the mock-ups of the Zaporizhzhia NPP industrial site and the VVER-1000 unit, as well as to take a VR trip to one of nuclear power plants of our country. All those interested received information materials and souvenirs from NNEGC.
That event became another important step in the constructive dialogue between the energy and education sectors.
