Day of Honoring Participants in the Elimination of Consequences of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant Accident

main

Today’s date is special. Both for the nuclear energy industry, and for Ukraine and the whole world. We honor the participants in the elimination of the consequences of the Chornobyl NPP accident – people whose heroism and self-sacrifice stopped the development of the largest man-made disaster in the history of mankind.

More than 650 thousand people took part in those unprecedented activities. They worked, often without having full information about the danger; nevertheless, they accomplished a feat that saved the lives of millions and the future of entire generations.

For us, Energoatom employees, this date is a reminder of our main responsibility: safe and reliable operation of nuclear sector and implementation of the highest standards of safety culture.

We bow down before the courage, self-sacrifice and dignity of the liquidators. We remember everyone who went into the radiation fire in order to prevent the world absorption by that fire. We remember those persons who did not return and those who are alive with the consequences of that terrible disaster.

Our duty is to remember the price of mistakes, to care for the heroes-liquidators, to develop a safety culture and to do everything in our power to ensure that such a tragedy never occurs again.

We are grateful to everyone who stood and stands guard over the nuclear safety of Ukraine.

We remember. We honor. We bow down.
