30 Years on Guard for Safety: Ukrainian Nuclear Society, under the auspices of Energoatom, hold Scientific and Practical Conference

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, non-governmental organization “Ukrainian Nuclear Society” (NGO UNS) acting under the auspices of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”, will hold Scientific and Practical Conference “30 Years on Guard for Safety: Achievements, Priorities and Plans” on August 18, 2021. The Conference will take place in the conference hall of SE NNEGC “Energoatom”, 22-24 Gogolivska Street. 

Specialists of the Head Office, directors of separate subdivisions of “Energoatom” (including nuclear power plants and the Scientific and Technical Centre), grand old men of nuclear power industry, experts and members of the  science and analytics section of UNS, as well as representatives of international organizations and foreign partners of NNEGC, in particular, the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), Framatome and Polenergia SA, will discuss the areas for further development of the nuclear power complex, topics related to NPP safety level improvements as well as nuclear power professionals’ contribution to the energy security of Ukraine.

During Panel #1 titled “Ukraine’s NPPs: 30  Years of Safe Operation”, specialists will talk about the implementation status of the Complex (Consolidated) Safety Upgrade Program, the  monitoring of technical condition of NPP civil structures as a component of NPP safety, and achievements in the field of safety culture enhancement. In addition, other subjects have been scheduled for discussion covering the maintenance and repair optimization based on the risk-informed nuclear power plant configuration management, the implementation of innovative technologies and modifications to nuclear facility equipment with a view to upgrading the safety level. Panel 1 discussions will be moderated by Volodymyr Bronnikov, President of NGO “Ukrainian Nuclear Society”.

During Panel # 2 “Scientific Development and Achievements for NPP Safe Operation”, representatives of WANO, Framatome and Polenergia SA will take the floor to talk about the world’s efforts on improvements of the safety of nuclear generation, about current challenges and ways to overcome them. Panel # 2 will be moderated by Mykola Vlasenko, Director of SS Scientific and Technical Centre (SS STC).

A special attention will be given by delegates to the safety culture principles. Specifically, scientists of the Institute for Safety Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) will describe how such principles are incorporated in the implementation of current technology-intensive monitoring systems of nuclear reactor neutron and physical parameters. Also, SS STC’s experts will talk about scientific & technical and engineering support in substantiating the safety of NPPs.
