On April 30, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at a special session adopted as a basis the draft Law of Ukraine No. 2386 “On measures aimed at repaying debts formed in the wholesale electricity market”. The draft Law is intended to resolve issues related to SE “Energorynok” debt to electricity suppliers, incurred before the introduction of the new electricity market. At the time of termination of the SE “Energorynok” activities (August 31, 2019), the accounts receivable of the state-owned enterprise to SE “NNEGC “Energoatom” amounted to almost 12 billion UAH.

Repayment of debts to the company for the supplied electricity will ensure the financial stability of SE “NNEGC “Energoatom”, implement maintenance campaigns and planned investment programs.

The adoption of draft Law No. 2386 as the basis was preceded by a meeting of the Anti-Crisis Energy Headquarters chaired by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal. During the meeting, the Government presented a set of priority steps to overcome the crisis in the energy system and specific measures aimed at solving the financial problems of the industry. And today, one of these steps has already been taken.

A large team of Ukrainian nuclear energy workers and their families supports the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Government, aimed at solving the difficult situation in the energy sector, and expresses the gratitude to the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, its leader Andrii Herus and the chairman of the relevant subcommittee Ostap Shypailo for the support provided in these difficult times for the energy sector as a whole and its determining component – the nuclear industry. We look forward to a quick review and support of the law as a whole.
