Energoatom and Electricité de France discuss possible areas of cooperation

On September 29, 2021, Energoatom’s management met with representatives of Electricité  de France (EDF). The parties discussed a number of important issues of common interest, in particular, regarding cooperation in the context of the signed agreements on the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel as well as the introduction of load following modes.

Energoatom’s head Petro Kotin noted that both for Ukraine and for France, nuclear power plays a crucial role, as it fuels their national economies. The nuclear operator Energoatom ranks second in Europe after the French EDF in terms of the share of nuclear energy in the national energy balance (over 54%).

Among the priorities in international cooperation, Energoatom’s goal is to constantly scale up cooperation with our partners from European countries, in particular with French companies.

In turn, Vakis Ramany, EDF Senior Vice-President New Nuclear Development, expressed the French side's interest in the development of nuclear energy and the implementation of joint projects with Ukrainian nuclear power professionals.

A day earlier, in preparation for a meeting with EDF representatives, Energoatom’s management met with French diplomats. Alexander Gorbachev, Adviser on the Nuclear Policy of the Regional Economic Service in the CIS Countries of the French Embassy in Ukraine, highlighted the pragmatic approach of Energoatom's management to addressing strategic issues. He expressed great interest of the French side in cooperating with Ukrainian nuclear power professionals and stressed the importance of deepening the dialogue between the two countries.
