Representatives of Energoatom and State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate met with Norwegian ecologists
On 19 February 2015, representatives of NNEGC “Energoatom” and State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) met with Nils Bøhmer, Managing Director of the Norwegian ecological organization Bellona. There were many topics on the agenda, such as nuclear and radiation safety, diversification and security of nuclear fuel supplies, life time extension of operating units and construction of the Central Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility.
Chairperson of the SNRIU Serhiy Bozhko informed Norwegian ecologists about SNRIU’s activities in the area of nuclear and radiation safety regulation in Ukraine. He emphasized that cooperation and dialog with international ecological organizations is an important activity to ensure safe operation of nuclear power plants, especially due to the recent events in the Eastern Ukraine.
Director for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Energoatom Pavlo Lashevych answered the questions about main features of construction of the Central Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility and diversification policy of nuclear fuel supplies.
During discussion about diversification policy of nuclear fuel supplies Nils Bøhmer emphasized that he “doesn't recognize Rosatom's reasons against using in Ukraine of fuel assemblies manufactured by Westinghouse”.
